New models of community care grounded in trauma informed principles, de-esclataion and responsive mental health are a necessary step for creating strong systems of mutual aid. Join artist and educator Vo Vo for a four week series that will explore the foundations of community care and inspire new ways of supporting each other. 


Intro to Facilitation and Tenets of Inclusive Online Facilitation - November 2nd 5:30 - 7:30 pm

Description: We will introduce folks to online facilitation and the tenets of bringing in whole selves, inclusion, student voice and choice, designing interaction, individualization, strengths-based lenses, recognizing power dynamics and connecting material to the everyday experiences of participants.


QTIPOC Aspects of Trauma Informed Care and Resilience - November 11th, 5:30 - 7:30 pm

We will revisit power dynamics, talk about trauma responses, coping strategies, effects of marginalization, internalized racism, colorism and perceptions of scarcity. We will finish with discussions on celebration, resilience, healing and community building.


Best Practice for Responses to Mental Health Scenarios - November 18th, 5:30 - 7:30 pm
An introductory training for folks responding to various states of mental health, and the best ways of addressing, approaching and working with them. We will address definitions, de-escalation, calming strategies, and how to integrate knowledge and trauma informed practices into procedure.


De-escalation and Bystander Intervention - December 2nd, 5:30 - 7:30 pm
Understand what is meant by the terms ‘allyship’, ‘de-escalation’, and ‘solidarity’. We will learn about the bystander intervention, and different situations that may or may not require intervention. Learn when it is appropriate to intervene, vocalize, use an exit strategy, or stay and de-escalate. Calibrate your own comfort levels with different intervention and de-escalation strategies.
