{CANCELED} "Women’s Roles in Balinese Performance” Lecture-Demonstration by Emiko Saraswati Susilo & Dewa Ayu Larassanti

*THIS EVENT HAS BEEN CANCELED*

Balinese performing arts are a tradition of innovation and change. The rich range of performing arts in Bali reflect the complex spiritual and social realities of Balinese culture, with forms that range from the very simple to the highly complex and virtuosic. This evening of discussion and demonstration of Balinese performance will highlight interesting historical developments and recent trends, including shifts in restrictions or assumptions about women’s abilities and what is ‘appropriate’ for women in performance. The evening will open with a brief introductory lecture, dive quickly into how these things look and sound with live performance demonstrations by daughter and mother team Dewa Ayu Larassanti and Emiko Saraswati Susilo, and wrap up with time for discussion and conversation.

Admission is free.
