When a group of women gather in their friend Stephany Beckmann’s New England home in 1933 to discuss education reform and the role of art in learning, they confront the confines that are placed on them by their society’s expectations about gender and sexuality.

Fornes’ 1977 play features the aching lyricism of her writing, her mysterious and vivid characters, a shotgun, a rabbit, and a second act that invites the audience to consider their own relationship to the theatrical event. On the occasion of Fornes’ 88th year, and the release of Michelle Memran’s documentary film about Fornes, The Rest I Make Up, please join Reed Theatre in this celebration of queer Cuban playwright María Irene Fornes and the lively and confounding world of Fefu and her many friends.

Directed by Kate Bredeson

*Film screening of Michelle Memran's documentary about Fornes, The Rest I Make Up, November 10 at 5pm, Music Rehearsal Room (PAB 320, 3rd floor)

**Warning: a gun will be fired during this performance
