Doctor Who is the longest running science fiction TV show in history, with a fandom stretching across the globe. Starting out as a lighthearted adventure through space and time, but becoming so much more, it has brought wonder and awe to generations. Doctor Who has the ability to appeal to almost any audience, with some stories being fantastical, and others raising profound philosophical, moral, and political questions. This class will cover both classic and new Doctor Who, looking into some of the most interesting themes, stories, and characters. Since Doctor Who is such a broad subject to cover, we will focus on a few topics of interest, such as the environmentalism and anti-war themes in Doctor Who, the relationship between the Doctor and their rival timelord the Master, and the ethics of the Doctor's many different kinds of relationships with their companions. However, this class will be taught in a conference style, so any topics students want to bring are also welcome. Background knowledge of the show is highly encouraged but not required. I hope to meet fellow Whovians and connect over a shared love of Doctor Who! Led by Rose Lawrence.
