The Ways of Knowing: Seeing the world through a bird's eye view and the human perspective

April 10, 12 – 1 pm, PAB 131 | Jalyn Devereaux, PhD Candidate, Oregon State University

Climate projections indicate radical shifts in temperature and precipitation, especially in the PNW, by the end of this century. I study how changing environmental conditions impact important life history stages (molting, breeding, migration, and overwintering) in red crossbills (Loxia curvirostral). Crossbills are an opportunistic species that can theoretically breed at any point of the year - meaning our questions are not fully constrained by photoperiod, like most bird species. I will focus on how different environmental conditions and times of year affect crossbill reproductive and stress physiology, then consider how each of our personal lenses of the world inform our ways of knowing.

This event is open to Environmental Studies students and those interested in the major.
