The Making of The Philadelphia 'Badlands'
Race, Class, and the Moral Geography of a Neighborhood Decline
with Jackson Smith '11
University of Oregon
Jackson Smith is a Visiting Assistant Professor of African American History at the University of Oregon, where they write and teach about racial capitalism, law, and policing in the urban United States. Jackson’s current book project, titled Dirty Capital: Vice Police, Nuisance Property, and the Long War on Drugs in Philadelphia, traces the history of what I call the “long War on Drugs” in Black Philadelphia from Prohibition to the contemporary drug war.
