#cooleygalleryHer talk will focus on the challenges of exhibiting artists whose work is performative or ephemeral in nature, and many times exists between documentation, object, and oral histories. She will touch on a number of exhibitions she has worked on, in particular Michael Asher and Jack Smith, which required working with archives and estates to develop methodologies for re-constituting site-responsive artworks outside of their original context. Fruitful questions around ethics and value continue to arise while thinking through possible retrospective frames.
Stella Cilman '16 is Assistant Curator at Artists Space in New York.
