What makes a literary giant a literary giant? Not only do their works reveal a deeper layer of the human condition, their creations inspire creativity.

Dante Alighieri and Emily Dickinson changed the landscape of the literary world around them. With imagination and perseverance, they wrote timeless prose and poems that inspired more poems, music, theater, and other works. Their creativity gave rise to a universe of artistic works for the betterment of humanity.

To celebrate their legacy, we present an evening of music, images and movement inspired by Dante and Dickinson. On the program is a dazzling array of vocal and instrumental chamber music spanning 500 years, including four world-premiere works by Oregonian composers Bill Whitley, Jesse Ehrenberg, Theresa Koon and Big Mouth Artistic Director Emily Lau, commissioned specifically for this occasion. We are also thrilled to welcome choreographer Robert Guitron from Polaris Dance Theatre as a collaborator.

Ticket pricing is pay-as-you-can. We work to ensure open access to the arts and equitable treatment of artists and kindly suggest contributing the equivalent of an hourly wage per ticket purchase. If you prefer to pay once in advance for multiple tickets, please contact us at info@big-mouth.org for assistance. Tickets are available in advance and at the door.

This project is funded in part by Big Mouth Society, Regional Arts & Culture Council and the Fred W. Fields Fund of Oregon Community Foundation.
