So You Want to be a Librarian (Paideia Panel)

Are you curious about following a career path as a librarian or archivist after Reed? Does it sound appealing, but you don't know where to start or how to consider the different options? What is library school like, how can you pay for it, and why do you usually need a Masters to get a job?

This panel features Reed Alums who have pursued careers in libraries, archives, and other information professions. They'll talk about their paths to their current roles, how they funded graduate school, and what they wish they had known when they started. Bring your questions, everyone is welcome to attend!

Alum panel:

  • SD DeWaay MALS ’09 - Instruction librarian, Clackamas Community College.
  • Drew Jackson ’17 - Resource Sharing Specialist for OCLC
  • Rachael Short ’94 - Special Collections Librarian, Multnomah County Library.
  • Veronica Vichit-Vadakan ’96 - Reference and instruction librarian, Portland Community College
