“If we can not imagine or envision a way to rest for 15 to 30 minutes a day, how will we be able to imagine or envision a world without police terror and equality for all? Our lack of imagination is intimately tied to our liberation. Our DreamSpace must be cultivated.”
-Tricia Hersey, The Nap Ministry
RESTival: Rest as Resistance
Throughout the month of November 2020, SEEDS and the Multicultural Resource Center will co-present a community RESTival – an opportunity to engage practices that center somatic wellbeing in the midst of a challenging socio-political landscape. Cultures of rest and care are crucial to build into our justice movements to create a more sustainable, humane world.
High Vibrational Resonance with musician Zachary James Watkins
Zachary James Watkins will play live compositions, focusing on vibrational and ambient sound and its relationship to meditation and the body.
Zachary’s composed works have focused on site specificity, collaborations, and economy of resources. Watkins often produces single page scores that address specific individuals and rooms if at all possible. High Vibrational Resonance will also explore new tunings on an equal tempered guitar fret board. The fuzzy intonation in this work refers to the constant tension between sensitive intervals. As an improvisor, Watkins explores form and does not shy away from structured pre-compositional controls.
