About this Event

After two years of Russia’s full-scale war of aggression against Ukraine, the world continues to be inspired by Ukrainian resilience and resistance. On the eve of the two-year mark of this conflict, leading experts will convene to explore the issues. Panelists will include 2022 Nobel Peace Prize winner and head of the Center for Civil Liberties, Oleksandra Matviichuk; Volodymyr Yermolenko, president of PEN Ukraine; and Kristina Hook, senior fellow with the Atlantic Council’s Eurasia Center. Alexandra Hrycak, Reed College and Shevchenko Scientific Society, moderates the discussion.
Topics for discussion to include: What does an act of Ukrainian resistance look like? What are the obstacles confronting Ukrainian society and its partners abroad? How can Ukraine safeguard its culture and identity as cities are being razed to the ground? How are disinformation campaigns shifting public discourse?
This event will involve watching a 90-minute live stream of the event happening in New York City and moderated by Alexandra Hrycak (sociology), followed by a discussion. Vasyl Safin (psychology) will be moderating the Reed campus discussion. There will be a Q&A with students and the public.
Free and open to the public. Co-sponsored by the Reed College sociology, Russian, and political science departments. Light refreshments will be served.
