Hear these Reedies talk about their professional journeys and discuss how new A.I. technologies have affected their work and our world.
The Reedies in A.I. panel is the thirteenth installment of the ongoing Career Pathways panel series hosted by the Reed Career Alliance committee of the Alumni Board that explores different career pathways taken by Reedies in a similar field of work. Blaise Albis-Burdige ’22 (Economics) - Co-Founder, Ubik, Inc. - Brooklyn, New York
Blaise is a founder at Ubik, Inc. a technology company in Brooklyn, NYC. Ubik aims to reduce the barriers to innovation and build AI tools that help humans create new things. Right now Ubik is focused on transparent and ethical scholarly/research tools that leverage AI. Ubik is also researching federated learning, offline language models, computational precognition+planning and geospatial planning.
First year or so after graduating from Reed with an economics degree, he was working on classification algorithms that used AI to tag text-based data (articles, quarterly reports, transcripts, etc.) with impact metrics based on SASB and UNSDG sustainability methodologies.
Daniel Beveridge ’92 (Religion) - Distinguished Engineer, VMware AI Labs, Broadcom - Tampa, Florida
Daniel is a Distinguished Engineer in VMware’s Research Group, focused on AI innovation and related technology driving disruptive innovation across key investment areas. He has developed a range of new technology over his 14 years at VMware (now part of Broadcom) and received over 50 patents on software design inventions related to software infrastructure. His insights draw from 30+ years in IT covering consulting, software architecture, and IT management.
Matt Giger ’89 (Physics) - Principal Architect, eBay - Portland, Oregon
Matt Giger is a Principal Architect for the eBay mobile app ecosystem. After graduating from Reed and Caltech with degrees in physics and computer science, Matt worked in the industry for several years before receiving a M.S. in computer science. Father of two boys, one which will be attending Reed starting in 2024.
Bronwyn North-Reist ’07 (Literature/Theatre) - Head of Creative, Chorus Boy Productions - Los Angeles, California
Bronwyn currently oversees creative for Chorus Boy Productions, a production company with an overall deal at Disney Branded Television. Prior to that, Bronwyn spent almost a decade working in live action series development at Disney, launching multiple Disney Channel shows, as well as High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, one of the flagship series at Disney+'s launch.
In addition to her time in development, Bronwyn also worked as Chief of Staff to President and Chief Creative Officer of Disney Branded Television, Gary Marsh, where she collaborated on various presentations and strategy sessions, from creative oversight to ad sales to employee all-hands meetings. Prior to her time at Disney, Bronwyn cut her teeth in the features world, working at New Regency, as well as with writer/director Simon Kinberg. She credits the volume of reading she did at Reed for her ability to digest and respond to material quickly, and wishes someone would figure out how to turn The Odyssey into a YA genre series for Hulu.
