The class will be a description of the intellectual, social and cultural trends prevailing at Reed in the period from September of 1963 through May of 1967, including the condition of the campus and the city of Portland at the time, the JFK assassination, the civil rights movement, the war in Vietnam and the draft, music, student activities, etc. It will include a description of attitudes and words that are almost 60 years old and not always congruent with current mores.
