2-3 p.m. Illustrated lecture on the teaching of Italic and its continuation today. In 1968 Lloyd Reynolds retired from Reed, but in his retirement he devoted his energies to the promotion of Italic handwriting throughout the Pacific Northwest. With the establishment of the Western American Branch for the Society for Italic Handwriting, Reynolds created one of the first calligraphy guilds in the United States and was instrumental in the adoption of Italic handwriting in Portland public and private schools.
