RAW: Peripheral Forms is pleased to introduce one of this year’s guest artists, bart fitzgerald. A pastor, scholar, and cultural critic based in Portland, OR, fitzgerald’s artistic practice “explores black sociality, religion, and queerness through a lens of liberation theology—as a base ideology for radical living.”
About the artist:
Fitzgerald’s work has been presented by Newspace Center for Photography, Portland African American Leadership Forum, Black Lives Matter: Portland, Portland Institute for Contemporary Art (PICA), and Reed College. Participatory and melodic by nature, fitzgerald’s oeuvre includes “I speak to God in Public,” an assemblage of song, instruction, and reflection informed by the Black Pentecostal church tradition. Fitzgerald engages audiences by asking them to rethink their own community’s conditions, and collectively imagine the intersubjective pathways leading towards liberatory possibilities.
Free and open to the public.
