Join us for a night of readings in Eliot Chapel with visiting writers Hannah Baer and David Velasco. A Q+A will follow and refreshments will be served. Free and open to the public.

 

David Velasco is a writer based in New York. He is the recipient of a Cultural Freedom Award from the Lannan Foundation (2024) and fellowships from the MacDowell Colony and Denniston Hill (2025). From 2005 to 2023 he was an editor at Artforum and was editor in chief for the last six of those years. His early days were committed to elevating the status of dance and performance in Artforum’s pages, and in 2016 he was the creator of and series editor for “Modern Dance,” published by the Museum of Modern Art. Most recently, he has written on the murder of his friend Brent Sikkema (“The Good Pervert,” Harper’s, Oct 2025) and the Palestinian exception in speech (“How Gaza Broke the Art World,” Equator, Dec 2025)He is currently working on a memoir about the convergence of personal and political atrocity. 

 

hannah baer is a writer and licensed clinical psychologist based in New York. She is the author of the memoir trans girl suicide museum and the nonfiction book The Life of the Party forthcoming in 2027. She is a psychoanalytic candidate and a contributing editor to Parapraxis.
