About this Event
3203 Southeast Woodstock Boulevard, Portland, Oregon 97202-8199
In the 1940’s, Norwegians made and wore red pointed hats with a tassel as a form of visual protest against Nazi occupation of their country. Within two years, the Nazis made these protest hats illegal and punishable by law to wear, make, or distribute.
L. Mattson will share about the brief history of the red hat with resources to learn more. They have a copy of the pattern and will encourage folks to consider obtaining one themselves (with all proceeds for this particular pattern donated to the effort). Disclaimer: L. is not a master knitter / crochetter, but maybe you or someone else who attends will be, and want to share! As such, this is not a craft demonstration but self-guided, community supported time to join in creative protest.
A limited number of supplies (about 18 skeins of yarn, and 6 sets of knitting needles) for making red hats will be available. Participants are encouraged to bring their own supplies, or their own current projects—all projects welcome, and happy to share space with you. You can review supplies needed for the hat in advance by visiting the links here (knit) and here (crochet).
