From the artist:
I started making art in classes at my high school, and I quickly came to love drawing and painting. For my AP studio art class, I made a nine piece series over the course of two years of non-objective environmental oil paintings with sustainably harvested pigments and hand mixed paint. The colors I use are based on nature, which I find to be a constant source of inspiration and awe. I capture the presence of color and light as well as their impacts within my pieces. By using colors that fit an instinctual sense of aesthetic pleasure, I hope to share the same feelings of calm and beauty that I get from my surroundings with my audience. In this project, I want to continue exploring this theme with my new experiences of my environment in the Pacific Northwest.
