About this Event
Have you ever wanted to create a map where you can do analysis? There are many ways to approach mapping – beyond just making a ‘pretty map’ but also having attributes (data) attached to spaces you map. This session will be an overview – or a taste- of ESRI GIS where we will go over basics. You will need a computer in order to participate in the hands-on activity and you will sign up for a 21-day free trial of ESRI ArcGIS Online to use during the session and after. But please don't feel you need to bring your computer. We will make a map collaboratively using my computer and taking turns trying things out. My slides will be emailed to participants so they can replicate the session activity on their own as desired. What are things you could map? Historical patterns of migration, where people speak various dialects, travel patterns of office workers, land use changes over time. . . and many more ideas. We will only scratch the surface during this session – but the goal will be to spark your interest in this tool, and perhaps urban planning or geography.
