Martin Luther King Jr. Day is Monday, January 15, 2024. This is a day to not only honor the spirit of Dr. King, but to also come together to make our communities more equitable. The Office for Institutional Diversity invites the Reed community to participate in an on-campus service opportunity on Tuesday, February 20, from 6-7:30pm. This is the new date after the original date was postponed due to inclement weather in January.
This event, hosted by SEEDS (Students for Education, Equity and Direct Service), is in partnership with the Refugee Care Collective, a Portland nonprofit organization that serves refugee families and youth who are resettled through the United States Refugee Resettlement Program. Refugee Care Collective primarily serve families – women, men, youth, and seniors – who were forced to flee their home countries due to war, violence, or persecution. SEEDS is hosting this service opportunity to pack 50 Restart Kits (Personal Care Kits) filled with essential household items for newly arrived refugee family to quickly build their lives again.
As volunteer spots are limited, please RSVP HERE by Thursday, February 15 to reserve your spot. We will only accept walk-ins as volunteer spots become available. We will send you a confirmation email with event details to confirm your volunteer spot.
