Workshops with Moncell Durden and Slim Boogie // Lecture by Moncell IllKozby Durden: "Navigating Cultural Identity: Symbolism and Meaning as it Relates to Pop Culture & Blackness"

Durden is a dance educator, choreographer, ethnographer, embodied historian and author who specializes in pedagogical practices that provide cultural and historical context in Afro-Diasporic social dance formations. He is a member of the pioneering NYC hip-hop dance group the Mop Top Crew, and Rennie Harris Puremovement, the Philadelphia-based hip-hop theater company. He has published articles in Jazz Dance: A History of the Roots and Branches and The SAGE Encyclopedia of African Cultural Heritage in North America. He is currently writing an article for The Oxford Handbook of Hip-Hop Dance and is developing a documentary on the genealogy of hip-hop dance.

Workshops and lecture are free and open to the public.
