In What Sense Are Partitions and Trees "The Same"? -
Partitions of a finite set, and trees with finitely many leaves, are two mathematical structures that we typically come across in very different contexts. In this talk, we will use ideas from category theory and homotopy theory to establish a connection between these two structures. We will investigate precisely in which sense they can be considered to be "the same", and outline some interesting consequences of this comparison.
