Since 1987, the Reed College Greek, Latin, and Ancient Mediterranean Studies department has sponsored a forum on ancient Rome for high school students and teachers of Latin. Each year, students and teachers from around the Northwest gather on a Saturday on our campus to explore topics related to the culture and literature of the ancient Romans. Reed faculty and staff lead afternoon seminars; this year's topics include education in the Roman empire, graffiti in Pompeii, Roman sports, magic and magical texts, and Roman bakeries and bread.

Keynote address (updated): Accio Latinam! Or, Latin and the Making of Science Fiction and Fantasy

Brett Rogers (Reed '99), Professor of Greek, Latin, and Ancient Mediterranean Studies, University of Puget Sound
