A workshop in "Kecak", one of Bali's most important forms of vocal music. Based in the healing traditions of the Indonesian island of Bali, this workshop will be lead by master musician I Dewa Putu Berata. It will begin with an introduction to the cultural context of this musical form and then provide participants an opportunity learn interlocking rhythmic patterns, Balinese melodies, and traditional movements. No musical background or experience is necessary, though musicians and dancers will find this workshop deeply engaging and fulfilling. The form is a lesson on the challenge and beauty of different patterns and sound qualities intertwining to create a dynamic, energized, musical community.
