Join fellow Reed Alumni for the June Restaurant Club at the #1 restaurant highlighted in The Washington Post’s 2019 Spring Dining Guide: Mama Chang in Fairfax, VA. Famed local restaurateur Peter Chang’s celebration of his family’s women in general, and his mother in particular, features cuisine from Hubei province in China.
Start out with the vegetarian scallion bubble pancake or the yuanbao pork dumpling; move on to the dry fried cauliflower or grandma’s original fish ball soup, with bok choy and goji berry. Savor the fresh chili whole flounder fish; the hot and numbing beef stone pot; or the Buddha style bean curd roll. Spiciness levels range from zero to three chili peppers, and there are plenty of vegetarian options available.
