About this Event
3203 Southeast Woodstock Boulevard, Portland, Oregon 97202-8199
This intermediate/advanced contemporary/modern dance class will focus on athleticism, technical precision, and dynamic movement exploration. Starting with improvisation exercises and a guided warm-up, we’ll build strength and increase body awareness, creating a solid foundation for the work ahead. The core of this class centers on finding freedom in movement utilizing phrase work, both in the center and across the floor. This is a judgement free space where dancers are encouraged to express themselves and find joy in movement.
Lauren Smith is a Portland based choreographer, teacher and dancer with over 20 years of extensive dance teaching experience with a current focus on contemporary modern and guiding dancers through improvisational and composition studies. Lauren is the co-creator of Tongue Dance Project, Director of Modern art Steps PDX, and full-time educator at Jefferson High School. With a BFA in Dance and a Master’s in Education, Lauren strives to create space and provide opportunities for artists of all ages to find freedom of expression and joy in movement and dance.
Free and open to the public. Open to all dancers ages 18+.
