This is a classroom-based introduction to what avalanches are and how they happen. We will talk about the different kinds of avalanches, their unique mechanisms and triggers, as well as techniques used in mitigation and rescue. This class is not a substitute for formal avalanche safety training; many skills required for safe travel in avalanche terrain are beyond its scope.
