February DC Restaurant Club - Xi’an Gourmet

The same folks who brought us the original best Chinese restaurant in town, Panda Gourmet (visited by Restaurant Club on two separate occasions over the years), recently opened Xi’an Gourmet in Rockville, again featuring Sichuan and Shaanxi Province specialties. The cuisine is noted for being “suan la” (sour and spicy).

Indulge in the signature dish (vegetarian, but not gluten-free), Shaanxi Cold-Steamed Noodles (thick-cut noodles made in-house with chili oil & black vinegar); sweat through the Shaanxi Flavor Fish (tilapia swimming in bubbling chili oil); savor the house-made Wontons in Hot & Spicy Sauce (bursting with meat, accompanied by a dipping oil infused with Sichuan spices including ginger, garlic, star anise and cumin). Less adventurous eaters should note that plenty of dishes are not hot and spicy. Note also that the vegetarian section of the menu boasts 20 distinct dishes.
