The Reed College mathematics department sponsors an annual Saturday workshop for area high school students and teachers interested in mathematics enrichment. The program will be conducted at Reed by mathematics professor David Meyer, assisted by Reed students.
F. L. Griffin MathFest 2025 will focus on Calculus Curiosities: Odd integrals, weird derivatives and strange limits. Three-dimensional objects that can be filled with a finite volume of paint, but never painted. We'll explore these and other curiosities from calculus including infinite sums that can be rearranged to sum to any number.
Participating students should be in high school and have an enthusiasm for mathematical questions. High school mathematics teachers are welcome and encouraged to attend with their students. The event is free, but preregistration is required: https://www.reed.edu/academics/special-programs/mathfest/.
