In this lecture, Sotiria-Rita Koutsopetrou-Möller focuses on one aspect of her thesis, which explores the complex attitudes toward sexual violence in the ancient world from the late Archaic period (circa 440 BCE) until the end of Justinian’s reign in the year 565 CE. In her talk, she investigates the legal statutes pertinent to the societies under consideration and evaluates relevant rhetorical declamations.
Sotiria Rita Koutsopetrou-Møller is currently writing her Ph.D. dissertation on sexual violence in the ancient world. She is affiliated with the department of religion, philosophy, and history at the University of Agder in Norway, where she serves as a research fellow. She holds a bachelor’s degree in law from the University of Athens and a master’s degree in history from the University of Bergen.
