Join Dr. Richard Newton as he leads us in an interactive evening considering a fascinating complex in human development: scriptures. Newton will guide us on an odyssey from papyri to the printing press, from Bibles to scrapbooks, and algorithms to artificial intelligence. Come learn about those cultural texts that people read and that also seem to read them back.
Dr. Richard Newton is Associate Professor and Undergraduate Director in the Department of Religious Studies at the University of Alabama. Newton explores how people create “scriptures” and their role in identity formation and cultural boundaries. Known for transdisciplinary research, digital methods, and creative public engagement, Newton presents religion as a provocative opportunity to consider how human beings work.
