The Reed College Book Club will meet with the East City BookshopStranger than Fiction Book Club to discuss 2018’s nonfiction blockbuster, Educated: A Memoir.
They don't know we are coming, but they probably love surprises. Please join us! Let Julia know if you have any questions.
This book is great, and hard to summarize, so here is an attempt at an enticing thumbnail sketch (just know it is much deeper and more intense than captured below):
Ms. Westover’s memoir contrasts her upbringing in a family that doesn’t believe in schooling and does believe in herbalism and conspiracy theories with her remarkable journey through university and a PhD. Her story will enrich your understanding of belonging, family, trauma, resilience, and of course, education.
HOW TO ACQUIRE THE BOOK: You can get the book for free through the DC Library, either in hard copy or through Overdrive. If you have a card through a library that subscribes to Hoopla for ebooks, it’s there too!
Please RSVP by March 30 to Julia Selker: firstname.lastname@example.org.
