The Reed College Dance Department is proud to present the Spring 2020 Dance Thesis Productions, including works by Dance thesis candidate Laura Kennedy, and Dance-Art thesis candidate Hannah Jensvold. The Spring 2020 Dance Thesis Productions will be held in the Performance Lab (PAB 128) at 7:00pm on Thursday February 6th, Friday February 7th, and Saturday February 8th. Get your tickets here.

The program opens with Hannah Jensvold’s piece, Inhabit, which was developed in collaboration with dancers Aliza Phillips, Annabelle Stern, and Dani Peterson. Inhabit works to bring together contemporary dance and elements of various traditions of installation and performance art, through the creation of space and the use of video projections, as well as hand-made-and-embroidered costumes designed and made by Jensvold, in order to explore physical sensation and experience. The piece seeks to investigate how we experience and express our relationships and connections/disconnections to our own and others’ bodies through movement and visuals and how that translates to audience experiences of physical and imagined phenomena.

Concluding the program is The Spaces Between, a tap and contemporary dance fusion piece choreographed by Laura Kennedy. Using techniques of interdisciplinary collaboration, improvisation, and choreography, this piece explores the process of finding commonality in different forms of dance. More specifically, The Spaces Between investigates the role of rhythm, call-and-response, and music in tap and contemporary dance. This work features choreography and improvisation by dancers Ena Hashimoto, Christina Li, Oliviana Moreno, and Emma Potter, as well as live music and vocals by Eli Knowles.
