Anthropology Roundtable Symposium: João Costa Vargas - The Cyborg and the Slave

The Department of Anthropology invites you to join them on September 28th, 2020 for their second Roundtable Symposium presentation of the year. João Costa Vargas, Professor of Anthropology at UC Riverside, will be presenting on The Cyborg and the Slave: Confronting AntiBlackness Through MultiRacial Political Blocs. This presentation will focus on the ways in which figures disavow and enable a coming to terms with anti blackness. Antiblackness, distinct from racism, is a foundational aspect of diasporic societies and renders the experiences of Black people central and unique to formations of empire-state such as Brazil and the United States. This is an occasion to connect with fellow students, faculty, and friends in the department as we enter the new academic year. We look forward to seeing you there!
