This lecture class will discuss the history of the Concert of Europe and European diplomacy, beginning with the Concert’s inception in 1815 and ending with its final collapse at the outbreak of the First World War in 1914. We will also discuss how the history of the Concert of Europe enables us to understand contemporary diplomatic systems and the dangers that they pose to peace in our time.
