Lynwood W. Swanson Promise for Scientific Research Award

A lecture by Dr. Kelly N. Chacón (Reed College)

Solving the MysTeRy of the membrane protein TerC

In this talk I will share the ongoing story of a puzzling membrane protein that is implicated in transition metal and metalloid detoxification in bacteria, but still has not been fully characterized. Thanks to the power of Reed undergraduates, we are closer than ever to solving the mystery! No need to be a chemist to attend this seminar – I will make sure that you enjoy the story no matter your background, and I welcome all to come join the conversation.

Dr. Kelly N. Chacón (they/them/elle) is the Arthur F. Scott Associate Professor of Chemistry at Reed College. They received their G.E.D. in Astoria, Oregon and eventually transferred from community college to Portland State University to earn a degree in Chemistry in 2009. They received their Ph.D. in Biochemistry at Oregon Health & Science University in the Spring of 2015, and began their faculty appointment at Reed in Fall of 2015.

Free and open to the public.
