 earch in the organic chemistry laboratory\, we sometimes find that experime
 nts give us unexpected results.  When assembling complex molecules in the l
 aboratory\, sometimes the things we learn accidentally are frustrating and 
 disappointing\, but sometimes they are the tip of an interesting iceberg.  
 Unexpected results can be important clues that help us recalibrate our synt
 hetic strategy\, based on a new understanding of how our molecules behave. 
  In some cases\, these surprise results help us discover novel reaction che
 mistry as well.
