The Afro Futurist Time Travel Club will reconvene to discuss Octavia Butler’s Kindred (1979) and Norbert Wiener’s The Human Use of Human Beings (1950). In this strange time on planet Earth, as we navigate our place in the landscape of human activity in late capitalism and ponder our uncertain futures, we find ourselves needing to look back at those who were looking forward. We will read excerpts of these texts, watch episodes of Branden Jacobs Jenkins’ Kindred (2022) and Adam Curtis’ All Watched Over by Machines of Loving Grace (2011), and see where this pairing takes us in a conference format.
