The Afro Futurist Time Travel Club will reconvene for a third year in a row … or the first time … again? In this strange time on planet Earth, as we navigate our place in the landscape of human activity in late capitalism and ponder our uncertain futures, we find ourselves needing to look back at those who were looking forward. We will read excerpts from two novels about alien first contact, Octavia Butler’s Dawn (1987) and Hannah Black’s Tuesday or September or the End (2022), watch historical and contemporary hard sci-fi on a big projector, eat food together, and see where these pairings take us in a conference format. Although there might be resonances between the different days, each of our classes will be self-contained. All are welcome!
