Russian Department Talk: Ilya Kukulin

“Did the Post-Soviet Period in Russian History End in 2014—2015?”

Ilya Kukulin is associate professor in the department of cultural studies at the National Research University – Higher School of Economics (HSE, Moscow), senior researcher at the International Center for the History and Sociology of World War II and Its Consequences, (HSE, Moscow), and senior researcher at the School of Advanced Studies in the Humanities, Russian Academy of National Economy and Public Administration (Moscow).

Kukulin will discuss the main actors and forces that challenge the new cultural and political order in Russia and how media and the arts both shape and resist the quasi-historical image of Russia’s “greatness,” “unity,” and “eternity” fostered by the regime.
